From G1 to the open road

Ontario's graduated licensing has a rhythm to it. Here's how Volt takes you through it.

01

Get your G1

Pass the written knowledge test at a DriveTest centre. Not sure you're ready? Call us first — we'll tell you exactly what to study.

02

Complete your BDE

Do the theory and home assignments online, then build real skill across 10 private in-car hours in the Tesla, at a pace that suits you.

03

Take the G2 at 8 months

BDE graduates can book the G2 road test four months early. Use our G2 package and take the test in the same car you learned in.

04

Finish with the full G

After 12 months with a G2, you're eligible for the G test. Highway coaching and a mock exam get you ready — then it's yours for good.

Sixteen years at the passenger seat

Volt is built on one instructor's experience: sixteen years of teaching students across Waterloo Region — first-time teens, nervous newcomers, and experienced drivers starting over. That experience shows up as patience, a clear explanation for everything, and lessons planned around the roads you'll be tested on.

Common questions

Do I need my G1 before I enrol?

You'll need a G1 before your in-car lessons can begin, but you can start the classroom and e-learning portion while you prepare for the knowledge test. Call us and we'll help you plan the order that gets you driving soonest.

How does the 8-month G2 eligibility work?

Normally, a new driver waits 12 months after getting a G1 before taking the G2 road test. Completing a Ministry-approved Beginner Driver Education program — like Volt's — shortens that wait to 8 months. Your completion is recorded on your driver record so DriveTest can verify it when you book.

Will the BDE program lower my insurance?

Many Ontario insurers offer preferred rates to drivers who have completed an approved BDE program, because graduates are statistically safer. The exact saving depends on your insurer and policy, so it's worth asking your provider once your completion is on record.

What if I've never driven an electric car?

Most of our students haven't — that's fine. Your first lesson starts with the controls: how regenerative braking feels, how the displays work, and how one-pedal driving changes your timing. Within an hour it feels natural, and the skills transfer to any car.

Can I use the Tesla for my road test?

Yes — that's exactly what the G2 and G road test packages are for. They include preparation lessons plus the use of the instructor's car on test day, so the vehicle is one thing you don't have to think about.

How do I book, and how do I pay?
